About
Carlisle Cathedral is one of the jewels of North West England. The second smallest ancient cathedral in England, it started life as Norman Priory Church in 1122, before becoming a cathedral in 1133. Notable features include figurative stone carvings, a set of medieval choir stalls and the largest window in the 'flowing decorated Gothic' style in England.
